Wine Tasting in Hunter Valley

It was my Dads birthday so we drove from the western suburbs towards wine region on a cloudy autumn day, as we made it out in the countryside the dark rain clouds had cleared. It was roughly a two hour drive & quite beautiful.

Beautiful countryside.

lovely countryside.

With over 120 cellar doors with free wine tasting to choose from you’ll want to go early! We started with Bubbles.

Feeling a little light headed we decided to have lunch before the serious wine tasting began. Did you know the Aussie works burger has pineapple & beetroot in it?

Would you eat it?

There is a cute little town right after the Hunter Valley Gardens. With quirky eateries, parkland’s, fake life sized animals & an enormous wine bottle.

We booked in at the Hungerford Hill for a wine & cheese tasting session at only $12.50 per person or $25 a plate. You can also have the wine session without ordering the cheese & its free.

4 amazing cheeses & fig/fennel jam???

goats cheese, brie, smoked cheddar & a light gorgonzola with caramelised fig & quince jam

We started out learning about each cheese where & how they were made & what the best wine match was. Our in-house expert was full of useful information or as she put it “useless information”

Luckily for us we got an awesome informative host who goes by the name of Bec. She knows her stuff, has a great sense of humour & is very passionate about wine & the best foods to pair it with.

We started with white & worked our way through to my favourite which is Shiraz & was thrilled when they brought out one called Heavy Metal it’s so delicious & has such an interesting reason as to why they named it that. Book in to find out!

Happy Birthday Dad.

There are also some wonderful little Cheese shops & delectable chocolates. Still jet lagging from our 3 day trip from Mexico to Oz I completely forgot to take a pic of the chocolate shop! It looked amazing.

So if you’re in the area take trip through the Hunter. You wont regret it!
